Long post but I wanted to share our complete story because I wish I'd had something like this to read when we started.
**Background:** We run a 24-room boutique hotel in Porto, Portugal. We'd been operating for 6 years but our review profile was a mess — 38 reviews across Google, TripAdvisor, and Booking, averaging 3.6.*
**The problems:** (1) We weren't systematically asking for reviews. (2) Unhappy guests were more motivated to write than happy ones. (3) Our responses were inconsistent.
**What we changed:**
1. Joined VerifiedGuest and set up automated invitations (36h post-checkout)
2. Trained front desk team on a 'resolve before they leave' protocol
3. Committed to responding to every review within 24h
4. Created a simple internal tracker for recurring complaints
**Results after 4 months:**
- Reviews: 38 → 114 verified reviews
- Average rating: 3.6 → 4.8
- Conversion on booking page: +22%
- Staff confidence: noticeably higher
Happy to answer questions!
